Europe’s Campsites Just Got Up to 53% Cheaper — and Your Tesla Is the Perfect Autumn Escape

The calendar just turned to autumn, and if you own a Tesla, that is quietly the best news of the season. While everyone else packs the tent away, the campsites across Europe are dropping their prices hard — and the weather in the south is still lovely. Fresh numbers from PiNCAMP (Germany’s biggest camping portal) for the 2026 low season show just how big the saving is, and why a Tesla is the smartest way to grab it.

The Numbers: Autumn Camping Is Dirt Cheap Right Now

PiNCAMP looked at around 2,300 campsites across the main holiday countries and compared low-season prices with the July–August peak. The drop is dramatic:

Country Low-season price (family of 3) Saving vs peak
Croatia €35 / night -53%
Spain €36 / night -38%
Italy €39 / night -38%
France €29 / night -36%
Europe average €35 / night -29%
Germany €36 / night -11%

Think about that for a second: a family pitch in Croatia costs barely half what it did in August. France is the cheapest of the big destinations at €29 a night. You are getting the same sea, the same mountains, the same stars — just with more of them to yourself.

Where Everyone Is Booking: Italy Leads the Autumn Rush

So where are campers actually going? According to PiNCAMP bookings for September and October, Italy is the number-one autumn destination for German campers — 27% of all bookings, up about 20% year-on-year. Croatia (21%) and France (16%) follow, with domestic German trips at 18%.

The pattern is clear: people want the warm south in the off-season. The Adriatic coast, the Italian lakes, the Croatian Istrian peninsula and the French Riviera are all still mild well into October, and now they cost a fraction of summer. A Tesla is ideal here because the Supercharger network is densest in exactly these countries — you can chase the last of the sun without ever worrying about range.

Why Autumn Is Secretly the Best Tesla-Camping Season

Beyond price, there are three reasons autumn beats the summer crush:

  • No crowds. The schools are back, the roads are quiet, and you can actually hear the birds at the campsite.
  • Cooler nights = perfect Camp Mode weather. A mild 10–18°C night uses only about 6–10% battery to keep the cabin cosy — far less than a sweltering August night with the A/C flat-out. You wake up with almost a full battery for the next drive.
  • Spontaneous trips. PiNCAMP says autumn trips are booked only about four weeks ahead and last around six days. See a sunny forecast, load the car, and go.

The only catch is temperature. Cooler air means you want the right kit so the off-grid experience stays comfortable — and that is where a few smart accessories earn their keep.

Kit the Car for Cooler Off-Grid Nights

A Tesla already gives you a warm, silent, gas-free base camp. These additions turn a chilly autumn pitch into a proper retreat:

The Bottom Line

Autumn is the cheat code of European camping: up to 53% cheaper, no crowds, and still-warm destinations in Italy, Croatia and France that your Tesla can reach on a dense charging network. Pack a Tesla Roof Top Tent, a 2048Wh LiFePO4 Portable Power Station and a 35L Dual-Zone Compressor Fridge, point the nose south, and enjoy the season everybody else gave up on. The campsites are open, the prices just dropped, and the stars are out. Go.
