Tesla Model Y L Is Coming to Europe: Why the 6-Seat Long-Wheelbase Could Be the Ultimate Camping EV

If you have been waiting for a Tesla that genuinely sleeps two adults flat without compromise, the wait is almost over. In early August 2026 Tesla updated its online configurators across Europe — Germany, France, Italy, Spain and then the United Kingdom — and the move lines up with one product: the Model Y L. This is the long-wheelbase, six-seat version already on sale in China and the US, and EU type approval was granted by the Dutch RDW back in December 2025. Camouflaged prototypes have already been spotted testing on German roads and at the Nürburgring.

For campers, the L is not just another trim. It is a fundamentally different sleep-and-carry machine. Here is why it matters for European Tesla camping.

What the Model Y L Actually Brings

The numbers are the story:

• Length: about 4,976 mm — roughly 18 cm longer than the standard Model Y.
• Wheelbase: 3,040 mm, up 150 mm.
• Seating: 2+2+2 with second-row captain chairs and a usable third row.
• Battery: 88.2 kWh LG pack, WLTP range up to 681 km (423 miles) on the Long Range RWD variant.
• Total cargo volume: over 2,500 litres with the rear rows folded.

But the number campers care about is this: when the second- and third-row seats are folded, the load floor becomes a genuinely flat, over-2-metre-deep bed. That means two tall adults can lie straight without diagonal contortions, and you still have the frunk and under-floor storage for gear. The standard Model Y can camp, but the L finally gives it the proportions of a purpose-built camper base.

The Cabin Is More Camping-Friendly, Too

The L does not only add space. The cabin upgrades make long trips more liveable:

• Second-row captain chairs with heating, ventilation, powered armrests and one-touch folding.
• Third row with powered recline and proper child-seat anchors.
• 16-inch front display plus the 8-inch rear touchscreen for climate and entertainment.
• Upgraded acoustic glass and an 18-speaker audio system.
• Adaptive suspension (CDC), which helps on rutted campsite access roads.

For a camping couple, the L is basically a two-person hotel room on wheels with enough spare capacity for a group run to the shops. For families, the six seats mean the third row can stay up for the kids while the boot still swallows suitcases and a 35L Dual-Zone Compressor Fridge.

How to Camp in It

The flat floor changes how you kit the car out:

Should You Wait for It?

European pricing is not official yet. The US Launch Series started at $61,990 and deliveries there begin in October 2026. The EU version is produced at Gigafactory Shanghai, so supply should move quickly once the order window opens — Tesla usually opens orders within days of a configurator refresh.

If you camp often, travel with family, or simply want the most usable Tesla bed on the market, the Model Y L is the one to watch. The standard Model Y made EV camping mainstream in Europe; the L looks set to make it genuinely comfortable.
